Situated in Millers Lane in the village of Outwood, Surrey, the Castle Inn has never been the easiest pub to find - hence being known as ‘the hidden pub of Outwood’. However, the warm welcome and great food visitors will discover there makes the journey worthwhile.
Jan and Warwick Bean took over the Castle Inn in 1999, and immediately set about changing the pub for the better, through a gradual programme of renovation and improvements to the menu. Today’s Castle Inn, with its extensive menu, heated continental-style decking area, patio garden, cosy snug and children’s playground is virtually unrecognisable from the Castle Inn of old. The pub’s reputation has grown accordingly: it has been added to the Good Beer Guide, received glowing reviews in local papers, and won the BBC Southern Counties Radio ‘Food Pub of the Year’ award in 2005. The kitchen even provided a training ground for Edwina Currie before her appearance on ITV’s ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ in 2004!
Outwood itself is well worth a visit, whether it be to stroll through National Trust woodlands, take in a cricket match or admire the oldest working windmill in Britain. So do visit this little-known corner of Surrey, and enjoy great food and a fantastic atmosphere at the Castle Inn whilst you’re here.
